| This was my post on Myspace this morning!!!
**To save time, I'm just gonna post what I wrote to Clancy about my trumpet solo! (I played "The Bride of the Waves: Polka Brillante" by Herbert L. Clarke)
"Well, I managed not to die and got through NYSSMA!!! HAHA!
First off, when we (Grace, my dad, and I) got there we had to switch rooms because the room we were supposed to be in had no piano. Luckily, the kid who was supposed to go in the other room had a CD to play with him and didn't need the piano so the switch was simple.
The scales were...interesting! I totally messed up my first one...I started it over twice...not a good omen...and it was only Eb so go figure!!! AND I had played it only a few minutes before I went in!!!
The piece was alright. Of course, I heard every little mistake I made and wasn't satisfied with it and would have liked another chance, but there's only one chance and I had to get over it and accept it. It wasn't horrendous, like at the point that I wanted to cry (like last year), but I wasn't thrilled with it. It was just mediocre. Grace and I played wonderfully together, we really clicked!
I messed up a measure in the intro and I have NEVER done that before so I was shocked and annoyed, but I pushed through it. It was a little airy once I moved from the intro into the rest of the piece (except the cadences which were lovely), and the triple touging wasn't as strong as it usually is. Also, I got the high notes out at the end, but I opted to play the lower D everywhere before that!
I definitely need to work more on my endurance because that piece is all about endurance.
My mouth was slightly dry and the allergies were a definite complication, so I know under happier conditions it would've sounded better. It has definitely sounded better in the past. I'm going to continue working on it...I really enjoy this piece.
The sight reading was sorta strange it went from 4 to 7 to 4 to 5 to 4... 4 4 4 4 4 I had some pitch errors in the beginning but my time was right and my rhythms were correct so he (the judge) seemed happier with it than I was.
Once I was finished I thanked him and he told me it was nice to hear that piece cause it wasn't played often and that I had a real understanding of the style of the piece!!! So I'm taking that to mean very good things!
I know that it would've sounded better had I been able to warm up more, but since I was having such a crazed allergic reaction beforehand, there was nothing more I could do about it!
I tripped up on a few things and I shouldn't have, but I kept going and that's all I could do."
I have voice NYSSMA in 2 hours, so I g2g! I'll be singing "On My Own" from Les Miserables!!!! Hopefully it'll go well! My throat's pretty much stopped hurting, but my nose is still stuffy!
I'll post later about it!**
Voice went really well..probably better than trumpet! It was my first year doing voice and it was a level 4 so it was slightly rough, but I went well and I didn't mess up any of the words! LOL! I was having such trouble with the last two verses of it ("On My Own") Thursday in my run through!!! (O_O)
The judge told me I needed to work on my sightreading though! LOLOL!!!! The only time I've ever sightsung was for two of my college auditions! I had never practiced it so whatever!!! :D
All in all it went well!
I just can't wait to get the sheets back and to see the comments! <3 |
